Question:  Can you give me details on how the experiences with horses translate into the skills you list above?

Answer:  I'd be happy to.  Below I have detailed in-depth how the experiences translate into skills that can be applied on the job and in your daily life:

Working with horses your staff will develop Corporate Life Skills that translate to:

·         Profound Verbal & Non-Verbal Communication – when working with horses you use body language to communicate along with connecting to the horse’s body language as they communicate back.  People are expressing their “real” feelings with body language whether they are aware of it or not.  I teach body awareness and language since people are truly expressing their personal thoughts that are underlying their words.  Like reading between the lines.  People also learn to clearly communicate what they are asking when working with horses (black and white) which carries over into human to human relationships – being clear and concise verbally and non-verbally while observing non-verbal ques (the truth behind the words).

·         How to establish Healthier Boundaries – moving a 1200 lb animal with the slightest pressure is very empowering.  Learning herd psychology is very close to human psychology with Four Core Emotional Concerns humans and horses share.  Respect for the animal and maintaining a healthy safer boundary translates in our daily lives with confidence and respect for ourselves and others.

·         Heightened Emotional Awareness and the effects on our surroundings – horses mirror our emotions and we can not hide or suppress our feelings around them.  Horses immediately recognize when we are not authentic and will not take us seriously when we ask them to do something or try to establish our status (position in the herd).  Becoming emotionally aware, what are true feelings are whether fear, anger, and frustration we can then get to the source of those feelings and use them as information.  Working with horses heightens our emotional awareness and how we affect others.  When we are cranky that directly affects our workplace, those around us, but when we are aware of our feelings we can use information to change the circumstances or make different choices so we can move forward in harmony with our staff and team mates.  Like a little boy who is throwing his toys around a parent would ask are you angry because your sister came into your room uninvited and went through your toys or are you frustrated trying to put that square peg in a round hole?  Identifying the feelings and the differences is heightened awareness.

·         Presence of Mind - In the Moment Awareness – being in “the moment” is very important when working with horses since it can mean your safety and the safety of others.  Thinking about how the cold coffee messed up the start of your day or worrying about missing the bus tomorrow takes you away from the moment.  Being present affirms people when you are actively listening and not thinking about what you are going to say, but truly paying attention and releasing your thoughts to absorb theirs makes for a cohesive team.

·         Deepened sense of Confidence and Trust to make sound decisions and judgments – when you have worked with a horse and mastered communicating through body and mind moving a 1200 lb animal controlling each foot fall is very empowering.  Self confidence spills over in decisions and judgments and working with horses deepens confidence and trust in oneself on levels of body, emotion and mind.  A person can’t help, but feel accomplished and strong after successfully working with a horse that requires an individual to use their whole being to communicate and bond.

1-day workshops are groundwork only and 2-day workshops typically will end with people in the saddle for those who are ready.  Let me know what you think.  Thank you for your great questions.  Missy
